Mon General Hospital, a 189-bed community hospital in Morgantown, WV, is the cornerstone of the Mon Health System. Mon Health System is an integrated health care delivery system that provides a full range of family centered care to residents of north-central West Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania. At Mon General Hospital, our medical, nursing and support staff provide high tech / high touch care in a community hospital setting with a focus on providing patients with the best health care experience possible. The hospital offers a full range of services, including General Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Imaging and the Hazel Ruby McQuain Birth Center
Mon General Hospital recently completed a $92 million renovation and expansion project. From 2005-2009, the hospital built the five-story Hazel Ruby McQuain Tower and renovated the existing North Tower. The end result is that the 189-bed hospital is now 100 percent all-private patient rooms. Every treatment area or area in which medical information is passed from one person to another within the hospital is private. Whether patients are spending time with family, talking with a doctor, receiving care from a nurse or simply trying to sleep, they do so in an environment which was designed with their privacy in mind.
The hospital features a two corridor system - one private and one public. Visitors and patients use separate corridors to move through the hospital. This affords patients greater privacy and comfort when leaving their rooms for tests, and it helps put visitors at ease. Mon General Hospital was one of the first hospitals in the nation to be designed this way.
The hospital's expansion more than doubled the size of the hospital's Emergency Services Department and allowed the hospital to build a new Intensive Care Unit with state-of-the-art technology. The hospital's new Imaging Department is twice as large as the old department and is equipped with the latest generation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized axial tomography (CT) and other diagnostic capabilities. In addition, all Mon General Hospital's women's health services are now combined in a single convenient location - the Women's Imaging Center.
Mon General Hospital is well into the second phase of its renovation program. A new 10 bay infusion suite was opened in October 2011, a new Orthopedic Center with four operating rooms was opened in January 2012 and a new Endoscopy Center opened in July 2012. In addition, construction is under way for a new four room Cardiac Catheterization Lab, scheduled to open in February 2013. Renovation and expansion of the hospital's birth center is also underway.
While Mon General Hospital has always experienced very high levels of patient satisfaction, since completion of the first phase of the renovation and expansion project, patients have consistently rated Mon General Hospital in the top 10 percentile in the country in patient satisfaction.
To recruit new physicians to the area, the hospital recently entered into a partnership to offer a
Family Medicine Residency Program. The new
Family Medicine Residency Program will begin on July 1, 2013 and can accept up to four qualified residents each year.
